Transcend to Assist in Windows 2000 Project January 15, 2000 - Toronto - Transcend Communications Corp. has been awarded a contract with the Ontario Government to provide networking expertise for the government's Windows 2000 Rollout Project. This 18-month project, commissioned by Management Board Secretariat, is tasked to design and plan the rollout of Microsoft Windows 2000, which has been selected as the government standard platform for desktop and server. Transcend's role will be specific to providing network advice to the server design team for the physical placement of domain controllers implementing Microsoft's Active Directory. Transcend was selected because of their experience with the Ontario Government's Wide Area Multi-Protocol data network, GO-Net. Transcend President Robert Charuk has been involved since 1988 on both the InfoNode and ServeNet planning initiatives, which eventually became a reality as GO-Net in 1992. Mr. Charuk was client Project Manager at Ministry of Natural Resources, the first GO-Net customer, for implementation of the first 100 sites on the new network. He later was Project Manager at Ministry of Solicitor General and Correctional Services for implementation of a further 140 sites. GO-Net currently provides wide-area network service at over 1700 Government locations across Ontario. Transcend's involvement in the project begins next week. The Planning and Development phase is expected to be completed by June 2000. Revised: January 15, 2000 |
