Ontario Government Contract for Network Implementation Awarded May 12, 1998 - Toronto - Transcend Communications Corp. today was awarded a contract by the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services to provide project management expertise in a large network infrastructure implementation. The project involves the migration of 140 Municipal Police forces to the Government of Ontario's GONet wide-area TCP/IP network, for access to the Ontario Provincial Police central computer system (OMPPAC). The Municipal Police currently use an aging Asynchronous data network. Conversion to GONet will provide a sixfold increase in performance for users, with no increase in cost. It will also position the Police to use the next-generation version of OMPPAC when it becomes available. It is based on the client/server model and requires a TCP/IP wide-area network to function. Transcend was chosen because of their extensive experience deploying wide-area networks at the Ontario Government. In 1993/94, Transcend provided Project Management for the GONet implementation at 100 Ministry of Natural Resources locations. The project is expected to be completed by November 1998.
